Artist Statement
Jill B Gilbert is a graphic designer, media artist and photographer who resides and works in Houston, TX. She was born in Upstate New York and lived in four other states before settling in Houston.
Jill has enjoyed photography, typography and graphic arts since she was a kid.
I enjoy the abstract primary-colored compositions of Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, and Piet Mondrian. I am fascinated by artists Georgia O’Keeffe, Roy Lichtenstein, Sarah Morris, and Wayne Thiebaud. I am inspired by bold, crisp photographs—a black and white Ansel Adams landscape, a colorful Andreas Gursky photo composition, or an Annie Leibovitz portrait.

Jill’s main photographic subject is entropy, the beauty in decay, rust and dirt in nature and manmade things. She photographs often-overlooked everyday objects and living things, capturing the beautiful lines, forms, textures and abstractions in things She creates work with carefully cropped images and a clarity of content.
She has exhibited photographs and graphic media works in group exhibitions in Houston, TX, and has other works published in digital and print media.
